You must have more than strong legs to complete a race.  A strong core and strong upper body is a must.  As your legs tire, you will need to utilize your back, abs, arms and shoulders to propel you to the finish line.  By strengthening your entire body you will also dramatically reduce your risk of injury. Many common running injuries such as shin splints, tendonitis, runners knee, ITB issues and lower back problems, can be avoided and reduced by enhancing your running program with strength training and conditioning.

As a runner with Run Strong you will have the opportunity to take part in a challenging workout during your training.  We suggest that two days a week should be spent cross training to avoid injury and strengthen your body. If you are tired of wandering around the gym and picking up a weight here and there, Oxygen and Iron has the energy-packed, hard-core, enjoyable classes to revive your training during the winter months. These workouts combined with your running program will enhance your performance and help you get the edge you are looking for.
